Danny Rose and Erik Lamela back in training with first-team squad

It is understood that the defender has his eyes set on a move to Old Trafford before the World Cup in Russian Federation in the upcoming summer as he wants to play under Mourinho as soon as possible.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose would prefer to join Manchester United because he would like to work with Jose Mourinho over Chelsea manager Antonio Conte if he was to leave Spurs in January, according to a report on the Daily Star.

He has not played since January due to a knee injury that required surgery but is on course to return to training next week.

The Daily Star claim United are confident of landing the England worldwide for £45million next summer and that the player has his heart set on the move going through ahead of the World Cup in June.

Rose, who apologised during the summer after his "ill-judged" comments on Tottenham's transfer policy, wage structure and his own future, could presumably be in a position to play again later this month, although Pochettino has been reluctant to attach a specific time frame to his recovery.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy fined Rose and made him issue a public apology.

This has seen fan attitudes towards Rose change especially in light of his summer outburst, with the defender suddenly considered expendable by some, having been seen as a key first team player after his 2016 form. Already this season four different players have operated in the role-Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw.

Levy will drive a hard bargain and refuse to let Rose go on the cheap, but United have the spending power to make Spurs an offer that will be too good to turn down.
