Fake currency notes act as oxygen for terrorism: Rajnath

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that Indian soldiers are killing at least five-six terrorists every day on the Indo-Pak border and they told the soldiers that if Pakistan fights, they will give it a smash hit answer. The agency has so far arrested 10 people, including Altaf Shah alias Fantoosh, son-in-law of pro-Pakistani separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and influential businessman Zahoor Watali.

Inaugurating the counter-terror agency's headquarters in Lodi Road here, Singh also said: "The NIA will bring down the morale of the terrorists".

The maximum number of cases, 63, pertained to "jihadi terrorism", followed by 41 cases of terror financing, 25 of insurgency in the Northeastern states, and 13 incidents of Left-wing extremism, Kumar said. He hailed the NIA's role in curbing the menace of fake currency which he said acted as oxygen for terrorism.

According to the home minister, the NIA has been getting full cooperation from central and state agencies in its task. "A specialised wing of the force should be dedicated to conduct regular cyber security audits and build its capacities to deal with cyber terrorism", he said.

Speaking at the inauguration, Rajnath Singh praised the agency, saying it has established its credibility and impartiality in last eight years.

"I will soon take up the demand for setting up the Vishwakarma Community Development Corporation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to celebrate Vishwakarma Jayanthi across the country", he assured the backward community on the occasion.

NIA director general Sharad Kumar and his successor, Y C Modi, who will take over on his retirement on October 30, also spoke on the occasion.
