Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 WC: Bronze for Brazil

Youssouf Koita dropped at his back, disappointed with his mistake as the final whistle blew and Brazil won the bronze at the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup on Saturday.

That fortuitous goal, and a late strike by substitute Yuri Alberto, helped Brazil win 2-0 and clinch the bronze medal.

It was similar to the mistake committed by England custodian Rob Green in the 2010 World Cup against USA. Mali, meanwhile, went outside a podium finish after ending runners-up in the last edition in Chile.

Selecao coach Carlos Amadeu fielded an unchanged starting XI from their semifinal match. Both waited for the other to commit mistakes.

Mali tried to enforce and attacked with goal throughout the remainder of the game but Brazil's defence made sure that they were not going to have any slip-ups. In the 26th minute, Mali took a free-kick quickly after left-back Djemoussa Traore was pulled down by Wesley, and Camara took a stinging long-ranger that didn't miss the goal by a long distance. Mali skipper Camara had a shot in the 26th minute and Brazil goalie Gabriel Brazao had to dive to his left to save it. In the 38th minute, Jiddou let go an outstanding piledriver which was acrobatically tipped over by Brazao. The pattern of the match did not change much in the second half with Mali looking the side likely to score. Within seconds, though, Alan would attempt a low shot when he sprung the offside trap, and his shot was half-saved by goalkeeper Youssouf Koita and rolled into the Mali net, bringing the Salt Lake Stadium to its feet.

The ball dribbled towards Koita, who put his hands out in preparation for a routine collection. Mali made list-ditched efforts to salvage some pride with efforts from Boubacar Haidara, captain Camara, and Jiddou, but to no avail.
