NLDS Game 4 to Be Played Wednesday — Cubs-Nationals Postponed

Gonzalez was the choice for this Game 5 over Tanner Roark.

The Cubs scored three runs in five innings against Gonzalez on home runs by Willson Contreras and Anthony Rizzo, but the Nationals scored five times in the eighth for a 6-3 win. Cubs ace Kyle Hendricks will take the mound against the Nationals' Gio Gonzalez.

The decision to start Gonzalez continues a familiar script for Washington: In 2012, the Nationals won Game 4 against the Cardinals, the National League Central and defending World Series champions, behind a huge home run (Jayson Werth's walk-off solo homer) to force a Game 5.

It was thought that Stephen Strasburg might step in to start Game 4 after Tuesday's contest was postponed, but Strasburg is apparently feeling a little under the weather and wasn't able to get his usual prep work in, so the Nationals will stick with Roark as their starter.

The left-hander started Game 2 in Washington for the Nationals.

The Nationals are looking to avoid a fourth division series loss in six seasons. He finished his night tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 12 batters.

Game 4 was initially scheduled for Tuesday afternoon but was rained out. Roark's last outing was out of the bullpen in Washington's regular season finale October 1. Does Maddon make wholesale changes and deplete his bench to have more left-handed hitters?
