A Harry Potter version of Pokémon Go is coming

Interactive's new Potter-focused sub brand, Portkey Games, which has the most terrific company name of all-time.

The news comes after a rumor surfaced previous year that Niantic was developing a Harry Potter AR game - supposedly dubbed "Harry Potter Go" - but that was debunked as a hoax.

Bradford Hornsby is an editor, music writer, web producer, and pop culture blogger for CBS stations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The game is expected to launch sometime next year.

As you might expect from Niantic, the focus will be on real-world interaction to "put magic in the hands of aspiring wizards and witches worldwide".

Going off a tweet on Twitter, the writer of the TechCrunch post, Darrell Etherington, got this news from Kris Able on Twitter, who claims this news comes direct from Warner Bros. It makes sense seeing as the game is still a ways off from release, as we could be looking at another summer release similar to that of Pokemon Go. Let us know in the comments!

The makers of the once immensely popular Pokémon Go are now making a Harry Potter AR game, Tech Crunch reported today.

Are you bored of playing Pokemon Go and wish you could just throw on some Hogwarts robes and scavenge your local streets for horcruxes, spells and fantastic beasts instead?

In other Harry Potter news, it's been announced that the entire soundtrack will be released as a massive vinyl boxset later this month.

Wizards Unite is the latest project to come from the developer, the result of a partnership between Warner Bros. For now, you can stay up to date on the game's website.

Hanke spoke in more detail on the official blog for Niantic Games.
