At last, Buhari sacks Babachir, Ayo Oke, appoints Boss Mustapha as SGF

Adesina said "President Muhammadu Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir David Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke".

Mr Boss Gida Mustapha is a lawyer, management consultant, politician, businessman and boardroom guru of considerable repute.

"But the President by the virtue of the position he occupies is the only one who has all the information and he would do what is necessary at the right time, now we have been vindicated and it shows that the President has not in any way waived his commitment not to tolerate corruption at any level no matter who is involved".

He regretted that some public officials were consistently using protesters against the lawmakers as a result of their resolve to fight corruption.

Senator Dino Melaye has demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari should also sack all indicted public officials including the "wrong pegs" in his government to ensure the urgent rejig needed in the current administration.

It urged other committees charged with the responsibility of investigating other alleged corrupt matters in the country to expedite action and report to the Senate for further action.

This is why I am calling on committee with pending investigations to do so.

He reminded his colleagues that the issues that led to the sack of Lawal emanated from the Senate when the upper chamber, after investigation, returned a verdict of guilt on the former SGF.

"Those who found wisdom in spending money to spread falsehood to demean the national assembly should know that they are doing no good to the over 170 million Nigerians we represent".

"The position of the President, therefore, is that investigation agencies which have already commenced the investigation of the two officers removed from office will go on with their work of investigation without any interference or hindrance. We must keep the flag flying".

"What is important and instructive today is for me as deputy leader of this Senate to implore all my colleagues to say that the task before you in the protection of the constitution and the laws of the federation which is the basis of the engagement with the people who elected us is not a small task".

The statement said the President accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Lawal and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
