'Doctor Who' Reveals Jodie Whittaker's Female Doctor Costume

Details of the new series are being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, but it has been announced that Jodie's Doctor will have three companions in the TARDIS this time around.

She is seen in cropped teal culottes with yellow braces, as well as a striped jumper and long trench coat.

Throw in some sturdy boots, and this Doctor means business (and, we may add, is rather stylish).

"To be honest I think she looks more like a presenter on Play School or Blue Peter rather than the Doctor", the Progtor Who Podcast tweeted. Similarly, the long coat was a signature piece of David Tennant's version of the character, and Whittaker's Doctor honors that with elegance and panache.

Beyond that, reactions have ranged from hating Jodie Whittaker's look to the thought that it might be an in-joke that will be addressed in the series. She's here and she's gonna rock it, so fans better start ordering their blue trousers now to get ready for cosplay costumes.

Released this morning via the Beeb's official Doctor Who Twitter account, the unexpected image quickly gained global attention. Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor was a fan of suspenders, although some are attributing that touch to another famous alien. Capaldi is set to appear one more time as the character for the show's 2017 Christmas Special, which will see the debut of Whittaker in the role and is appropriately titled "The Doctors".

"[The First Doctor] goes into the Twelfth Doctor's Tardis and says 'it's a bit dusty around here, it's in an very bad state isn't it?" Jodie will take over as the 13th Doctor starting next fall with a brand new season of Doctor Who.
