Family of 4 found dead in Mapleton home

A family of four who migrated to Utah just a few months ago, were found shot to death in their Mapleton home Thursday night in what appears to be a murder-suicide, law enforcement said.

Police responded to the scene after reports that family members had missed work and other appointments.

"It seems like everyone was getting along really good".

The 45-year-old father of the family had gotten a job in Utah and moved his wife and two children to the United States from Switzerland.

One of the family members hadn't shown up for work, and the family's cars had not moved for consecutive days.

Police in a northern Utah town are investigating after a family of four and a dog were found dead with gunshot wounds in what is believed to be a murder suicide. "One of the things that caught their attention was neighbors had said they have a dog that when somebody knocks on the door is very aggressive and barks". The family's dog also was killed.

"They were so affectionate", she told the news station. Police say authorities are doing autopsies on the bodies to learn more about exactly what happened in the home. The neighbor said that the Jessica and Timothy met while he was overseas.

The teenage girl had recently enrolled as a sophomore at Maple Mountain High School, and counselors had been made available to students and faculty, Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey told the Salt Lake Tribune.

Mapleton, nestled against the mountains about 10 miles (16.09 kilometers) south of Provo, has a population of about 9,500.

A family friend told KUTV the move "was a dream come true" for the family.
