Hearthstone Kobolds & Catacombs Expansion Set to Release on December 7

Hearthstone Kobolds & Catacombs Expansion Set to Release on December 7

We spoke to game designer Peter Whalen and art director Ben Thompson about the expansion, its best cards, and Hearthstone's plans for the future.

If you're interested in single player content, the new Dungeon Run game mode will be added with Kobolds and Catacombs.

Tompson explained that releasing Adventures were holding back what some of the game had to offer in terms of new cards being added to the meta, and for those that never completed the Adventures fully, this prevented them from getting those cards. And for a different type of challenge, players can enter "The Forge", where they start each match by building a deck from a new set of cards, and then use that deck to duel other Forge participants. Some of the most alluring rumors speak of powerful Spellstones among the 135 cards included in Kobolds & Catacombs: enchanted items that you hold in your hand to empower before playing. The card packs, however, will only unlock on December 7.

Log in from next Friday and you'll get one of those Legendary weapons and three new card packs for free.

The next card in Hearthstone's Kobolds and Catacombs expansion is called Elven Minstrel. As with any new Hearthstone expansion, you can pre-order 50 card packs from the new expansion for $49.99 and unlock a "For the Hoard" card back to your deck.

Hearthstone's "Kobolds and Catacombs" release date is December 8, 2017.
