'I Regret That I Am Not President' - Joe Biden

"I have a regret that I am not President, because I think there is so much opportunity", Biden said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, an excerpt of which was obtained by ABC News' Good Morning America. Biden discussed why he regrets not being president and also why he didn't run in 2016.

Biden is now promoting his book about his late son, Beau, entitled Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and goal, and said he wanted to dedicate his time to the book before considering a future bid for the USA presidency.

According to the NBC report, Pence speaks with Biden over the phone at least once a month, and has spoken with Cheney over the phone and at meetings in the White House. "You want to look at them, I want to think of them as this attractive kid in the back of the book, or strong Major in the United States Army, or the guy introducing me at the National Convention".

The former vice president explained that in order for one to decide to announce whether he or she is running for president, they need to be able to answer two questions.

"I was writing the book and I'd write about my boy", Biden paused, pressed the book to his lips and continued with eyes threatening to well up with tears, "and I'd say, 'Well, this is what Beau said to me'".

"I've done not a single thing to promote that or to organizationally do anything", he said."My dad had another expression, he'd say, 'Joey, don't compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative".

He says that as the primary race was gearing up, he was still grieving his son Beau's death. "Out of everything terrible, something good will come if you look hard enough for it, '" he told Winfrey.

Though Biden did not directly refer to Trump in the clips aired by "GMA", he described to Winfrey the characteristics he believes make for a successful leader. "They play to their strengths and try to shore up their weaknesses", Biden said.
