Israel arrests 'Islamic Jihad' leader as threats traded

Israeli forces arrest a senior Islamic Jihad terrorist in Samaria, as tensions between the Jewish state and the terror group run high.

The IDF arrested Islamic Jihad leader Tariq Qa'adan Monday morning, and when asked if Qa'adan was involved in militant activities, a security source said "Islamic Jihad is a terrorist organization and any action within the framework of the organization is forbidden".

Islamic Jihad, on their part, has sent instructions to their followers to commit a major terrorist attack against Israel as soon as possible.

He warned Israel would give a "harsh and determined" response that would target Islamic Jihad's Damascus-based leaders as well as the Hamas movement, which has ruled Gaza for the past decade - a message echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. The IDF reinforced its units as the tensions along the Israel-Gaza border mount.

The Iron Dome system, which is created to shoot down short-range rockets and, in some cases, mortars was deployed to counter the threats made by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group, which has vowed to avenge its members killed in the tunnel blast and its aftermath. Gen. Yoav Mordechai issued a statement in Arabic directed at organizations in the Gaza Strip. Ten members of the group died in the tunnel.

The bodies of five terrorists who were working on the tunnel inside Israeli territory were recovered by the IDF, the army said.

Islamic Jihad has sworn revenge after a tunnel the group dug from Gaza into Israel was demolished last month, killing a dozen militants.

"It is playing with fire on the backs of residents of the Gaza Strip, and at the expense of the internal Palestinian reconciliation and the entire region", it added. Twelve Hamas and PIJ fighters, including senior military commanders, were killed in the subsequent explosions in the tunnel. "We will take a very firm stance against anyone who tries to attack us or attacks us from any area".
