Nintendo Switch is getting its first video streaming app with Hulu

If you're new to the service, you can get a free trial before paying the $7.99 monthly subscription fee for the Limited Commercials plan or $11.99 for the No Commercials plan. In that report, it unceremoniously reveals that Hulu will be going live on the Nintendo Switch eShop later today.

As the holiday season edges closer, the addition of streaming should make the console more appealing. While PS4, Xbox One and Wii U all featured streaming services, internet browsers and even news apps, the Switch was slow to embrace anything other than games. Now Switch owners will be able to watch Hulu exclusives, such as the Emmy-winning The Handmaid's Tale, as well as shows catalogued only on Hulu, like the Emmy-winning This is Us, both at home or on the go.

In case you're not a Hulu subscriber and don't follow the ins and outs of the service's offerings, you should know that Hulu is now positioning themselves as the primary beneficiary of Netflix's recent content losses. In our view, these are not differentiators.

"We built the Nintendo Switch to be a world-class gaming device, meaning we want you first and foremost to play games on the system and have an incredibly fun experience", Nintendo America's Chief Operating Officer Reggie Fils-Aime told The Washington Post in March. Instead, they preferred to focus on the console's video game offerings.

Hulu will be launching sometime later today.

In terms of getting games on the console first, Nintendo has done an excellent job of getting that done in the Switch's first year.

When Nintendo provided information for eShop updates for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch on November 9, 2017, an important milestone was announced.
