Oklahoma woman who married mom sentenced in incest case

A Duncan woman who married her biological mother last year received a 10-year deferred sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty in Stephens County to committing incest.

She could face 10 years in prison if found guilty, Tulsa World reported.

Patricia Spann, 44, and Misty Spann, 26, were accused of having an incestuous relationship.

And when they married in 2016, Patricia Ann allegedly convinced her daughter they weren't breaking the law.

Misty Spann also set out to dissolve her and her mother's marriage, filing for an annulment "by reason of illegality and fraud" on September 1, according to online court records.

Patricia is identified as Patricia Ann Clayton on their marriage license application, filed in March 2016 in Comanche County.

There's a scientific explanation for why couples like Patricia and Misty Spann get together, despite being related as mother and daughter.

Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether or not a sexual relationship exists.

She also was married to her biological son in 2008 in Comanche County, according to Tulsa World.

Patricia Spann told investigators that she lost custody of her three children, but reconnected with them in 2014.

Patricia Spann, who is also charged with incest, will appear in court in January.

"Why she chose her daughter, I'm not sure", Smith said.

"For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you?"

A woman has been found guilty of incest after marrying her mother. "Patricia's a very disgusting and terrible person". The two eventually married, but when the family returned to Oklahoma, everyone learned the truth: that they were related.

Misty and Jody's brother Cody Spann told KSWO that his mother manipulated both his sister and brother into marriage. "She threatened to poison him". He said that after that marriage was annulled, Patricia set her sights on Misty, allegedly threatening her with poisoning and kidnapping if Misty refused. Was she an adult?
