OnePlus will keep the headphone jack 'for the time being'

On top of that, we also know that the phone will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, rather than finally kill it. But in 2017, this seemingly standard 3.5mm headphone jack has split fans into two different sections - those who can live without it and those who cannot. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau wrote a detailed blogpost explaining why they will continue with this feature, though he admitted getting rid of it would help them reduce the overall size of their phones. With the inclusion of the headphone jack, customers can use a larger variety of headphones, including audiophile-level elite models.

OnePlus is expected to announce its next phone sometime this month, and in the buildup to that, company CEO Pete Lau has confirmed one detail about the device: it'll still have a headphone jack.

OnePlus have always been tipped to be working on a 5T, an update to the flagship OnePlus 5 smartphone released back in June. OnePlus says that 70% of its audience put an emphasis on audio quality, and says that, especially when cost is factored, wired audio is the way to go for quality.

This tagline has also appeared in a blurry image that purports to show the landing page for the OnePls 5T on the firm's website.

Anyway, after all this teasing, and now, a confirmation, Carl Pei once again quoted OnePlus' tweet (the one from Thursday that revealed the OnePlus 5T's name and headphone jack).

If the leaked information is accurate, it's possible the OnePlus 5T will be available to buy at end of November or early December. At one point, we thought about using another USB-C port to replace the 3.5 mm audio port. Like the Mi Mix 2, S8 series, etc, OnePlus 5T's display could be bigger with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It would seem like a pretty cruel joke to remove the headphone jack on the OnePlus 5T after a post like that. But our goal from the beginning has been to bring better technology to the world.

In a swipe at Apple, Lau added, "This is one of those times when we respectfully disagree on what it means to be courageous".

The main difference between the 5 and 5T will definitely be on the front.

In terms of the chipset, it should come with Snapdragon 835 and 6GB of RAM with 64GB of built-in storage; and 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. OnePlus 5T will likely sport a more expensive price tag, and we saw this trend with the OnePlus 3T as well.
