Was this you while your turkey was cooking?

Black Friday, which comes the day after American Thanksgiving, is viewed as the start to the Christmas shopping season.

The figures are based on Adobe Experience Cloud, which claims to track 80 per cent of online transactions at the 100 largest web retailers in the US. In 2016, that number was $1.3 billion.

Canada's brand of Black Friday chaos typically doesn't include the brawls seen south of the border, but the second busiest shopping day of the year seemed tame even by local standards.

Much like in the recent years, bricks and mortars stores employees will hand out color-coded maps to help keep Walmart loyal customers from getting too stressed while hunting for the big ticket items.

As for those consumers don't want to join the crowd in-store and prefer shopping online at either or in-app, the sales begins at a minute after midnight of Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 23.

Adobe predicted a total of $2.8 billion in sales on Thanksgiving alone. The sales are also up 17.9 percent from a year ago.

As of 7 a.m. PT, Black Friday online sales were already at $640 million. "With many consumers on the road, or with family, we're seeing record traffic numbers to retail sites from the smartphone, as well as revenue".

Apple Airpods and Sony PlayStation VR are the top-selling electronics, while PJ Masks and Hatchimals and Colleggtibles remain the top-selling toys.
