Baker Mayfield, No. 2 Oklahoma Beat No. 10 TCU, Punched CFP Spot

Oklahoma scored often early - and late - and lowered the boom on TCU for a second straight time this season, leaving little doubt who the best team in the Big 12 Conference is this season.

Oklahoma took a 24-17 lead into halftime, but had it not been for a fumble recovery returned 10 yards for a touchdown by OU linebacker Caleb Kelly on TCU's first snap in the game, the score would have been deadlocked at the break. Oklahoma's 17 first-quarter points was the most ever scored in an opening quarter in Big 12 title game history. They are the only Big 12 team to make the four-team playoff format that started in 2014.

Leading up to Saturday, there were some nerves around the league - and in Norman - about the Big 12 potentially playing its way out of the playoff if Oklahoma lost. After stopping TCU on a fourth-and-1 play, Mayfield found Marquise Brown open down the right sideline for a 52-yard touchdown and a 38-17 lead with 10:41 left in the third quarter. TCU was forced to punt the ball to Oklahoma, and on the Sooners first offensive play of the second halfBaker Mayfield hit wide receiver Mykel Jones on a slant across the middle for a 55-yard touchdown with just 34 seconds gone in the third quarter. On the other side, TCU has allowed only six total points (two field goals) in the second half of its last seven games.

But the second half looked like a statement by the Sooners to the College Football Playoff selection committee: Invite us, and watch out.

This is the first time since 1913 that TCU is playing the same opponent twice in the same season.

Mayfield, the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy to be named next week, was 15 of 23 for 243 yards to take game MVP honors.

Hill finished 27-of-37 for 234 yards passing, and led TCU with 51 yards rushing.

The Sooners (12-1) won their third straight Big 12 championship and their 46th overall conference title while nearly assuredly locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff, in which they last played in 2015.

"I have an obligation to TCU to try to win the game". Both mistakes led to Oklahoma touchdowns.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Devin Singletary ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns and Florida Atlantic beat North Texas to win its first Conference USA championship in coach Lane Kiffin's first season.

The win locked up the Sooners' 11th Big 12 championship.
