Cyclone Ockhi lends much-needed calm to campaign scenario

Former Congress strongman Shankersinh Vaghela, who floated his "Jan Vikalp" front, was also forced to cancel his roadshows and rallies that were to be held in Junagadh, and Mahuva and Palitana towns of Saurashtra, a leader of his outfit said.Though Vaghela was supposed to reach Surat tonight, he dropped his plan due to the approaching cyclone.

He also said that he was monitoring the situation arising in various parts of the country due to the cyclone. He was scheduled to address a public meeting in Surat on Wednesday at 6 pm but he will now do so on Thursday at 1 pm.

Cyclone Ockhi is getting high as after leaving a trail of destruction on the southern coast, it is likely to hit coastal areas of Gujarat.

Though Cyclone Ockhi, which was expected to make landfall in Maharashtra, has now moved away from state's coast, parts of the state are expected to receive light to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

The rally of Modi can be again rescheduled on December 7, the party leader said.

Cyclone Ochki has claimed lives of 39 people from the state of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
