New England owned a 9-3 lead at intermission. If Sunday was supposed to be a measuring stick game for McDermott's Bills, they fell well short of where they needed to be.

Quarterback Tom Brady's emotion was at red-hot levels as evidenced by a sideline outburst in the first quarter, but with his on-field performance not quite at peak levels early, the New England Patriots needed to support him in different ways on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

The New England Patriots were supposed to waltz into Buffalo and blow out the Bills on Sunday.

Stephen Hauschka made a 49-yard field goal to put Buffalo on the board late in the second quarter.

The second half was a different story offensively.

WR Bernard Reedy was promoted by the New England Patriots from the practice squad. However, their defense kept the Bills in check with big plays and key stops. I would say just being able to go there gets your juices flowing, and it's just a dream come true every single time you get to go to your hometown and play.

It quickly became the Rob Gronkowski and Rex Bulkhead show in the third quarter. Gronkowski snagged eight passes for 147 yards.

Rookie Nathan Peterman replaced Taylor and led the Bills to the 1-yard-line on his first series before turning the ball over on downs. With over 30-all goal yards on the drive to be capped off by a 14-yard rushing touchdown for Burkhead would extend the lead even further in the Patriots favor making it 23-3.

The Patriots would hold on for a final score of 23-3.

Brady then cited the Bills' most recent game, a 16-10 victory over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Patriots were crunched 41-14 in the 2014 season in a game that sparked Bill Belichick's now-famous "on to Cincinnati" refrain. The Bills fall to (6-6) and will play the Colts in Buffalo next week.
