Guardiola regrets Redmond rant after City victory

When Raheem Sterling netted a stunning 95th-minute victor to secure a 2-1 victory for Manchester City against Southampton on Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola could be forgiven for his wild and theatrical celebrations from the dugout.

He said, "Oriol for me is one of the leaders of the club, of this team, one of the captains too".

But while he is clearly delighted with his players' efforts to date, he is predictably playing down talk of setting records and winning trophies, despite a 12-match winning streak in the Premier League.

'Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that's what makes him one of the best Manager's in world football'.

"I explained what happened". If they want to listen to me then I will do it.

Guardiola was seen yelling at Redmond just moments after Raheem Sterling last-gasp victor and some reports claimed the Spaniard had called the forward a "w****r". "It does no favours to the sports journalists in the game that I like, happily work with and genuinely respect".

"It's so complicated when teams defend with 10 players", he added.

Sterling improved steadily under Guardiola last season but his development appears to have accelerated again this term. But they didn't want to play, they were time wasting from the ninth minute. "I didn't know him last season, I realised how good he is" was what Guardiola claimed before Redmond came to his support. Many in the English press have criticised Guardiola today, with some even suggesting he should face an FA charge.

"Losing the game the way we did in the last kick of the game after working so hard for 90-plus minutes, I was very disappointed".

"It was a good night, I think all the supporters create some special moments tonight and in the last second we enjoyed the situation", the City boss told a new conference.
