Has An Idea For A Star Trek Film

Both entertainment outlets confirm the two now plan on bringing a writers room together for Paramount to flush things out.

Unfortunately, there are no further details about Tarantino's idea, but he would reportedly consider directing the movie, with Abrams producing.

Tarantino's gone on record with his love of this franchise before, so it's not entirely shocking to learn the director might have a Star Trek story up his sleeve worth telling. But according to reports coming out of Hollywood, it's possible the film could be helmed by the last director Trekkies would expect. Tarantino noted that many classic Star Trek episodes could be "easily expanded" into a feature film, and he specifically mentioned the Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" as one that could work on the big screen.

The director told Nerdist that, given the choice, he would prefer to direct a Star Trek film over Star Wars.

The Django Unchained filmmaker previously hinted at his desire to take on the Star Trek franchise, telling Vulture in 2015, "I'm not really interested in doing a sci-fi film, but there's one thing in particular that I would be interested in". He remains a producer on the current film series, even while he's entered the Lucasfilm universe with "The Force Awakens" and now "Episode IX".

Quentin Tarantino may be set to start filming his Charles Manson movie soon (a Sony production which marks his ninth feature) but he is also looking towards other projects.

If the project comes to fruition, it will be the first time that Tarantino - best known for his violent dramas Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs - has worked on a mainstream film franchise.
