In marches the Christmas season: Several parades kick off holidays

The Silver Bay YMCA Conference Center will be on hand to do crafts with kids.

The City of Monroe will hold the 64th Annual Downtown Monroe Christmas Parade on Thursday (Dec. 7) starting at 6:30 p.m. This parade will end at the Vinton War Memorial after taking a route downtown. Streets will be closed between 3:45 and 8 p.m. Patrons of Munich Haus and Center Street business will be able to access Center Street and the Ferris Lot by telling police officers at the gates where they are going.

Friona and Hereford will each celebrate "Christmas in the Park" on Monday evening with separate parades and activities. A free Christmas concert will follow the parade at Hatton High School. Street parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and carpooling is advised. The tree-lighting ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m. on the town hall lawn.

Begin your day in Louisa with some holiday shopping at the Christmas festival at Courthouse Square, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Main Street Director Tim Moore said the parade is one of the biggest in the surrounding areas each year.
