Rivers for cursing at fan

Rivers for cursing at fan

LA Clippers guard Austin Rivers (25) drives against Dallas Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr. (1). Monday, Rivers rolled into teammate Blake Griffin's leg while diving for a loose ball, and Griffin exited the game with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

The Clippers lost to Jazz 126-107 after a late 21-4 run by Utah in the fourth quarter, and things got a little heated between Austin Rivers and a fan seated courtside.

According to ClutchPoints reporter Tomar Azarly, Rivers claimed that this fan was cheering on the team for the first half of the game, but had a change of heart in the second as the team was losing.

While one can't necessarily blame Rivers for being frustrated at all that's gone on with the team, that doesn't excuse him from mouthing off to a fan in that way during a game.

Rivers explained after the game that the guy was being a "fairweather ass fan" and that he apologized to him once things cooled down.

Rivers should nearly certainly expect to hear from the National Basketball Association on this one. Rivers described the fan and his disloyal behavior with this statement.

"I didn't handle it the best way", Rivers said Saturday. He added that he's "sorry for using profanity" but was "sticking up for my teammate, bottom line". "This is the message I want to say".
