Roses are red: Georgia heads to Pasadena for playoff

New Year's Day in a matchup of 12-1 teams.

Saturday's victory was Oklahoma's second over TCU this season. We'll have plenty of time to break down the game but I like Georgia's chances to win and advance to the championship game against either Clemson or. They did this season, although the only reason for it was for the sponsorship and advertising revenue that comes with it.

Oklahoma's roster includes three other players from Californi: junior Curtis Bolton, a reserve linebacker from Murrieta, sophomore Caleb Kelly, a starting linebacker from Fresno, and Jordan Parker, a sophomore cornerback from Pittsburg in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On the one sideline was Oklahoma.

In Georgia's only previous appearance in the Rose Bowl Game, the Bulldogs defeated UCLA, 9-0, on January 1, 1943. Georgia is scheduled to play a game there in 2025 against UCLA.

Quarterback Jake Fromm was brilliant throughout the season by completing 63.0 percent of his passes for 2,173 yards and 21 touchdowns against for interceptions.

But that brings us to how the Big 12 just screwed itself at its own expense because it felt it needed to have a conference championship game. Oklahoma, which won the Big 12 championship game handily over TCU and opened as a three-point favorite over Georgia, is underwhelming defensively, giving up 384.8 yards per game.

Alabama is 11-1, with the lone loss coming to Auburn.

When assigning teams to sites, the committee places the top two ranked teams at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home-crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. The offense has become more efficient, with the help of sophomore running back Rodney Anderson, while a once disastrous defense has forced eight turnovers in the last five games.

The 2017 New Year's Six have been established as bowl game announcements are underway. They're peaking at the right time, playing to their potential for four quarters and putting teams away - something they weren't doing in the beginning or the middle of the season. One more is going to UCF as the top-ranked Group of Five conference champion. Just outside of the Top 4, #5 Ohio State and #6 Wisconsin. The Orange Bowl is reserved for an ACC team (Miami?) and the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten, SEC, or Notre Dame (Alabama or Auburn). I don't know if anyone's done that.
