Trump tweets: Obama's shared more than sitting U.S. president

Twitter released its list of most retweeted tweets of the year. Those prizes, announced Tuesday, went to former President Barack Obama and-interestingly enough-a teenager on a quest for chicken nuggets. They all made the biggest splash on Twitter this year. Another tweet, which he shared after Senator John McCain's brain cancer diagnosis was made public, received more than 2 million likes, making it the third most-liked of 2017.

In May, Carter Wilkerson officially became the author of the tweet with the most retweets in Twitter history - more than 3,433,000 - taking the crown from the previous record-holder, Ellen DeGeneres, who got more than 3,430,000 retweets on a star-studded selfie at the Oscars. He fell short of the 18-million retweet bar set by Wendy's, the purveyor of Wikerson's obsession, but the fast-food chain gave Wilkerson his nuggets anyway for the effort. It is a quote from Nelson Mandela.

Twitter reveals top nine most retweeted tweets of 2017 — and Trump didn't make the list

Obama would make the top nine most retweets two additional times while current President Donald Trump did not make this specific list.

It was also the second most-liked post on the social media platform. He was the subject of the seventh most-shared tweet, with a tweet from Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James knocking Trump for rescinding Stephen Curry's invitation to the White House in honour of the Golden State Warrior's National Basketball Association championship. The top three tweeted news outlets were Fox News, CNN and The New York Times.
