UCL: Juve, United, Roma secure round of 16 spots; Atletico crash out

In a much better place are the English teams of Manchester United and Chelsea.

While Manchester United's 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow in Group A confirmed top spot for Jose Mourinho's men, Chelsea's 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday proved costly.

Powered by a front three of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, PSG had set a group-stage record of 24 goals before kick-off at the Allianz Arena, but were comfortably seen off by the five-time champions despite holding on to seal top spot in Group B. Sporting have been rejuvenated in the last two seasons under Jorge Jesus, but face the daunting task of having to win at Barcelona to have any chance of ending a nine-year absence from the knockout stage. Real Madrid are also confirmed to finish second and will be joined by three more sides - now scheduled to be Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto.

Are there any other restrictions?

That means Tottenham, for example, can not be drawn against Real Madrid as they were both in Group H, while they also can not meet any of the English teams to have won their group, like Manchester United. Barcelona can also not be drawn against Real Madrid because they are both La Liga teams.

There was drama aplenty in Group C as Roma finished top, beating Chelsea to prime position after winning against minnows Qarabag 1-0 thanks to Diego Perotti's headed effort.

Serie A champions, Juventus secured a spot in the round of 16 of the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday after the final Group D game at the expense of Sporting Lisbon.

If Liverpool do secure top spot that makes things even trickier for Chelsea. It means the Reds could face Bayern Munich, Juventus, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli, Porto and Leipzig in the last 16, with four places still to be decided on Wednesday night.

Tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain are showing signs of fallibility, after the French outfit suffered their second loss in just four days as they were beaten 3-1 at Bayern Munich.

These restrictions are removed ahead of the quarter-finals.

When is the draw and when are the games? The first legs will be played on 13, 14, 20 and 21 February, and the second legs will be played on 6, 7, 13 and 14 March 2018.
