Unlocked iPhone X Is Now On Sale

People can also order the unlocked iPhone X smartphones and pick them up from an Apple Store, which also sell an unlocked version of the device.

Over in the United Kingdom the phone has never had to be tied to a carrier when purchased, and the store is now showing a delivery date of December 13 if you buy it today.

As 9to5Mac reported yesterday, Apple is now offering the option to buy the tenth-anniversary handset without a carrier.

The consumer technology giant updated its online store on Monday with these unlocked iPhone X models that don't come preinstalled with a specific carrier's SIM card that helps with authentication and connecting with a carrier's wireless network. If you chose to skip carrier activation at the time of purchase, you'll need to insert an active SIM card or contact a carrier to set up an account. A recent study conducted by Cellular Insights for PC Magazine suggested that the GSM-exclusive version (Model A1901) for those carriers utilizes an inferior modem, supplied by Intel, that is slower on average than the Qualcomm-built modem inside the SIM-free variant, which is the same one used for Verizon and Sprint (Model A1865).

"The iPhone X sets the stage for Apple's next decade, with a sharp new design and a future focus on augmented reality", PCMag's Lead Mobile Analyst Sascha Segan wrote in the review. Now, if you happen to swap cell networks a lot on the go, or switch frequently between iOS and Android, the SIM-free version is the most hassle-free version of the iPhone X you can buy and probably what you'll want.
