Spurs had centre back Davinson Sanchez sent off in the 52nd minute for elbowing livewire winger Richarlison in the face, whose darting runs down the left flank caused problems for the visitors all afternoon.

Christian Kabasele put Watford ahead with a 13th-minute header from a Tom Cleverly corner.

Watford looked to take advantage of the extra man on the pitch and Doucoure again came mighty close to scoring on the hour mark when his 25-yard hit just bounced off the inside off the post to deny the home side from taking the lead.

Tottenham Hotspur are now winless in four Premier League matches, having been held to a 1-1 to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino praised his side's "unbelievable character" in overcoming Davinson Sanchez's sending off to earn a 1-1 draw at Watford.

"Yes, it was very good for him, in the way he's been building his fitness in the last few weeks and how we've been handling his situation". It was a game we wanted to win.

"In the second half we played more than 40 minutes with one less and the team was courageous and tried to win the game".

Speaking about whether Spurs will appeal the dismissal of Sanchez, Pochettino said: "I don't know because it was hard now to see whether it was or not".

"I feel very frustrated with the results recently but nothing to say about the performance". Because we talked a lot in the last few days about being focused and trying to concentrate in this type of action.

A draw. And like most draws this thoroughly entertaining one, which occasionally teetered on the edge of anarchy, asked more questions than it answered.

Meanwhile, Watford boss, Marco Silva, said: "We did everything to win, like Tottenham and it was a tough game for both teams". What happened, happened. The decision of the referee was right or wrong, we will have have time to analyse in private.
