The Paris police announced the information on its official Twitter, adding that two other suspects are still on the run.

"As they tried to get away, police officers arrived and three of the robbers were pulled to the ground and then arrested".

Five men armed with axes smashed a window at the shop inside the hotel at about 18:00 local time (17:00 GMT), French media report. Interestingly, the ministry of justice is adjacent to it. No one was hurt in the incident, police said.

Interior Minister Gérard Collomb also offered praise, saying they were "a credit to our police".

TV station BFM said the jewels were worth €4.7m (£4.16m).

Security in the area was increased in 2014 after several luxury jewellers were raided in violent robberies.

The landmark Paris Ritz hotel re-opened its palatial doors to guests in 2016 after almost four years of renovations and a major fire. The Ritz was the former home of legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel and a favorite drinking spot for American writer Ernest Hemingway.

The five-star Ritz is one of the French capital's best-known hotels.

Five men, some wearing jackets with police insignia, held Kardashian at gunpoint, making off with several pieces of gold and diamond jewellery as well as a ring - a total estimated worth of nine million euros.
