Black Widow standalone movie gets a scriptwriter

And rumours of a Black Widow solo movie have been on-going for years, but mostly from eager fans - as the studio and Scarlett Johansson have made it clear that at the moment, they had no concrete plans for the character.

Black Widow fans have been posting all sorts of GIFs and memes on Twitter, celebrating the potential of a Black Widow movie. "Of the characters that you've just mentioned [Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow, Hawkeye] I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow".

Marvel Studios has hired Jac Schaeffer to write the script for Black Widow standalone movie, in which Scarlett Johansson will be playing the title role. Just last year, the 33-year-old actress had spoken with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about the possibility of giving the character her own movie. But no harm in feeling happy for Black Widow fandom.

Are you excited to finally see Black Widow potentially get her own film?

Schaeffer may not be a recognizable name, but her status as a Blacklist Screenwriter is big.

Schaeffer is also writing a script for Nasty Women, a female-centric take on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels which Anne Hathaway is also attached to. "In my ind there's room for plenty more Black Widow". It will still need a director and go through the rest of development and pre-production, but hitting a 2020 release date is very possible at this point.

But it seems Scar-Jo's deal must be different to the other contracts that are more firmly ending at the end of Avengers 4, as The Wrap report has her in position to star once more as the ass-kicking Russian defector.

Black Widow fans have waited for nearly ten years for even a whisper of a rumor that goes beyond, "We're thinking about it".
