Gmail Brings Google Wallet To The UK

"Today, we're excited to make this feature available for Gmail users in the UK", Travis Green, Google Wallet product manager, wrote in a blog post announcing the news. In the announcement from Pali Bhat, VP of Product Management, Payments for Google, he notes that the company has been working to make purchasing experiences "simpler, safer, and more consistent".

Movie ticketing service Fandango is adding Google Pay as a new digital payment option for movie ticket purchases across its online, mobile, and social ticketing platforms.

Instead of having two different payment methods, Google decided it was time to combine both Android Pay and Google Wallet into one service. Google introduced Android Pay in 2015 and spent millions promoting that name as its wallet for in-store purchases. Google Pay and Apple Pay are now set to dominate all the payments. Then in 2015, Google came out with Android Pay, with support from three major United States carriers. Have you noticed the Google Pay branding yet?

Early adopters of the service include Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse, and Instacart. Now, in an effort to bring them under one roof, the search giant is rolling out Google Pay, a unified brand for its online and real-world wallets.

"Some consumers may think this is a totally new payment platform, but in-store mobile payment usage is low anyway, so the largest potential impact will be with online sales, and that's where Google is trying to compete against Amazon, PayPal and the card networks", Pucci said.
