India's vote on Jerusalem will not impact ties with Israel: Netanyahu

Asked whether Baby Moshe, the Israeli child who lost his parents in the 2008 terror attack on a Jewish centre in Mumbai, will be part of Netanyahu's delegation or whether Moshe will attend Jewish community event, Bhaskar said finer details of the Israeli PM's visit were still being worked out.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will embark on a six-day visit to India, starting from January 14.

The two leaders, who hit it off during Modi's visit to Israel in July previous year, the first by an Indian prime minister since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992, would visit two centres of excellence and inaugurate another such facility.

He said the bilateral commerce between the two countries stood at $5 billion in 2016-17 which did not include defence trade.

India and Israel will reaffirm their already strong economic and defence ties, and Netanyahu will also emphasising the bond that the two nations, which celebrated the silver jubilee of their diplomatic relatons a year ago.

Netanyahu, accompanied by his wife Sara, would be travelling to Agra to see the Taj Mahal on Tuesday and return to Delhi to participate in the Raisina Dialogue. Modi, along with Japanese premier Shinzo Abe, had held a joint roadshow in September.

They had also spent some time at the Sabarmati Riverfront, developed during Modi's tenure as Gujarat chief minister.

In Gujarat, Modi and Netanyahu will also visit the Centre of Excellence in Vadrad and inaugurate a Centre of Excellence for date palms in Bhuj via video conference.

"They will also visit the iCreate innovation campus and center", the embassy said in a statement.

The Israeli prime minister will have a number of engagements in Mumbai on January 18. He will also reach out to Bollywood in an exclusive "Shalom Bollywood" event.

Netanyahu's visit comes in the wake of India voting against the USA in the United Nations over it recognising Jerusalem as its capital. That trip came as Israel and India marked the 25th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations.
