Jessica Falkholt remains critical after life support turned off

Her younger sister, 21-year-old Annabelle, passed away in hospital soon after.

According to various media reports, the 28-year-old's family made the decision to switch off her life support, just a day after her parents and sister, who were killed in the same crash, had been laid to rest.

In the wake of the heartbreaking news, which was reported by The Daily Telegraph, fans flocked to Twitter to pay tribute to the beloved actress.

Annabelle died as a result of her injuries three days after the smash. Multiple surgeries were performed to save her life, including removing a kidney and part of her skull.

The 29-year-old actress was involved in a Boxing Day crash while traveling with her parents and sister.

Falkholt has been in a coma since the accident, and had her life support pulled on January 11, just one day after her mother and father were laid to rest.

'We made sure Jess wasn't alone and her friends were able to be there with her, ' the relative said. No decision is made without Jessica's wants in mind.

Our thoughts go out to all their friends and family.

'It is a day that will be hard to erase from our memory, ' he said. He also spoke of his anger and confusion over his family members' tragic ends, saying that "their lives on this earth ending on a highway makes absolutely no sense".

He also thanked the "saviours" who risked their lives to pull Annabelle and Jessica from the inferno.

'Whenever asking how long it would take to drive somewhere I would suggest an average for a normal driver and then add some additional time for the Lars factor.

The family were in a devastating auto crash on Boxing Day that also claimed the life of the driver of the other vehicle, Craig Anthony Whitall.

He also spoke about the love between his sister and brother-in-law: "They are together and always will be".

Whitehall was reportedly driving home from a methadone clinic at the time of the crash, which allegedly saw him veer into the other lane and hit the Falkholt family.
