Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores to close this year

The stores will be clolsing this spring, between March and early April.

The retailer announced plans in November to close Sears at Eastpoint Mall in Dundalk, one of 45 Kmart stores and 18 Sears stores slated to close by the end of this month.

Two years ago, Kmart had 940 stores, and now it will have about 400 locations after the closure.

SEARS Holdings, which owns both SEARS and K-mart, said It's closing another thirty-nine SEARS locations, and sixty-four K-mart stores.

No Sears stores in MI are included in the latest round of shutdowns, which will take place between early March and April. The company operates smaller Sears Hometown Store locations in Seabrook, Rochester, Swanzey, Gorham and Walpole. Last year, the company closed almost 400 stores.

Sears' announcement comes after the company closed 350 Sears and Kmart stores a year ago.

Sears says it will continue to conduct a "strategic assessment of the productivity" of its stores in order to "right size" its store footprint.

The company also stated that workers who will be affected by the closures will receive severance and can apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores. Full list of closings.
