Protesters plan rally against Trump before championship game

Donald Trump's garbled version of the USA national anthem at a college football game on Tuesday (NZ time) has people talking.

On Monday night, the President stood with his hand over his heart, singing along to parts of the anthem ahead of the game between the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, reports CNN.

His visit comes nearly exactly a year after Trump tweeted that Atlanta is "horrible" and "crime infested", drawing heavy pushback from several local officials. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results.

"I hope that this moment will serve as a reminder of the constant work to realize Dr. King's dream of building the Beloved Community - a community at peace with itself and our neighbors", Lewis said. Thankfully, they took their protest a step further by projecting what they were feeling onto the stadium walls.

In the 2016 election voters in Fulton County, which includes most of Atlanta, supported Hillary Clinton over Trump by more than 2 to 1.

Needless to say, his appearance was not without controversy, drawing protests, long lines outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium and a mix of boos and cheers upon arrival.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired?'" Trump said in August.

"We will not let the President's visit go without a response". The President then smiled and waved as he walked off the field. Wearing white is apparently meant to mock the "snowflake" label that Trump's supporters made popular.

"It's his denial of the legitimacy of the previous president demonstrates his racism and his association with white nationalists and defending the continued celebration of the confederacy, which was a failed insurrection against America", Rose told TheDCNF.
