This much snow is expected to make travel extremely hard, particularly for the Thursday evening commute, with slick roads and limited visibility.

The most intense period of snow and wind is expected to occur between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Saturday, snow showers are likely, mainly before 9 a.m., with a high of 29.

The National Weather Service says that gusty south winds ushered in by a strong cold front are making the area ripe for grassfires this week.

Wednesday night... Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 miles per hour after midnight. Patchy fog before 1pm. North northeast wind around 6 miles per hour becoming northwest after midnight. North wind around 6 miles per hour.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers.

Old Man Winter is expected to not only take us back into the deep freeze this weekend, but accumulating ice and snow is possible.

Some insight on our temperature pattern from retired NWS meteorologist Jim Lushine: Although the past few weeks have seen cold weather, the long-range forecast for 2018 - based on climatological factors - suggest that the year will once again be characterized by above normal temperatures.

Morning fog is anticipated Wednesday and a slight chance of freezing drizzle is expected after 4 p.m., as a mild high of 38 degrees provides the last vestiges of this January thaw fueled in part by a south wind with gusts up to 20 miles per hour.

SUNDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy with snow showers.

“It is along and after the passage of the cold front that the valleys should experience their best chance of snow, ” the Weather Service warned. Temperatures will be slightly cooler than today in the mid 40's for daytime highs. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

"It's not so likely in Harrisburg - there's a better chance of snow in northern and western Pennsylvania".

Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high of 31 and low of 19.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a wintry mix. Partly sunny, with a high near 44.
