UFC president Dana White sounds off on McGregor, Mayweather, Rousey

After introducing Ferguson, White called the 33-year-old Californian "the champ", while the UFC's on-screen caption also referred to him as "UFC lightweight champion" - insinuating that Ferguson had been promoted from interim to undisputed title-holder. "We'll see what happens [with McGregor]".

White said later of Ferguson-Nurmagomedov: "No, it's undisputed, I said it would be".

The report stated that Notorious would be stripped of his Lightweight title this weekend due to inactivity in the division and that this, in turn, will allow interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov to fight for it on April 7 in NY at UFC 223. But long story short, within two rounds I think Conor would knock him out.

This much we know: Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will headline UFC 223.

The Irishman could attempt to throw a spanner in the works by announcing his intentions to defend the Lightweight title, but it sounds like White has already made his mind up and is moving forward with the Lightweight division without McGregor.

White was appearing at a press conference with the fighters and introduced Ferguson, now the interim champ, as "the champion" - so was immediately asked if he had an update on McGregor's status. That's not fair to the rest of the guys in the division.

Fans will get their first look at their UFC 223 main event, the highly-anticipated bout between interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and the undefeated powerhouse Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The declaration left MMA's top reporters in total confusion, with White later saying that for now, McGregor technically remained champion.

McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title in November 2016.

"Did I say he [McGregor] has been stripped of the title? I said that Conor can't hold up the title for two years". "I said it would be". However, he has never defended the title and has fought just once in the 14 months since - a tenth round boxing rules loss to Floyd Mayweather.
