Ultra Game Boy from Hyperkin puts Nintendo on notice

Ultra Game Boy from Hyperkin puts Nintendo on notice

Nintendo late past year was linked to a Game Boy remake thanks to a Japanese trademark. Hopefully, it'll prove popular enough for Nintendo to release a Game Boy Classic with the games already built in. It probably won't be called the Ultra Game Boy (Nintendo licensing right and all) and it won't include any built-in games - that's right, you'll need to dust off those old cartridges or head over to eBay to start building your library. It's also housed in an aluminum casing, giving it far more durability than the plastic Game Boy shells we're all used to. Rumors of a Game Boy Classic have been making the rounds for some time now, but if Nintendo is going to release such a product, it might want to hurry up, because Hyperkin might just beat it to the punch when it comes to tapping into Game Boy nostalgia.

The Ultra Game Boy also features a third dial that will allow you to manipulate the backlit LED screen's RGB spectrum.

The game will be able to play classic Game Boy games, and possibly even Game Boy Color titles.

The retro gaming specialists at Hyperkin are back at it. The reason for stereo speakers is for allowing musicians to create modern chiptunes using the handheld.

It's impossible to count how many hours we spent (wasted) blowing air into cartridges, swapping games, and charging up that little lad who actually had a surprisingly long battery life considering.

It's no secret that retro games are in fashion right now, which is consistently proven by homages to old-school games as well as the huge successes of the NES and SNES Classic Editions.

The Ultra Game Boy is still in development, but so far it looks like it will come with no built-in games in the vein of the SNES Classic Mini Nintendo released previous year.

To that end, as well as having a full aluminium case to better prevent the nicks and dings the original was a magnet for, the Ultra Game Boy has a number of other mod cons.
