Valencia Confirm Francis Coquelin Deal

Francis Coquelin is excited by the new challenge that awaits him at Valencia - but admits it is one he probably should have taken up six months ago.

Valencia have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin, Arsene Wenger confirmed on Wednesday night.

Coquelin admits he spoke to Arsenal team-mates Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin and Santi Cazorla about life at Mestalla before making the move.

"He told me that Valencia CF is an excellent club, that I wouldn't regret coming, and that Marcelino is a great person and a great coach", Coquelin said.

He added: 'I've seen the team, they are doing very well, third in the table.

"He goes to Valencia because he didn't get enough games with us this season and he had an opportunity".

Arsenal are in the process of clearing out a number of their fringe players now the January transfer window is in full force.

Cancelo feels he hasn't been getting sufficient game time which could affect his chances of playing at the World Cup and he wants to return to Spain with Los Che also wanting him back.

Coquelin had joined Arsenal in 2008 as a youth, and made 150 Premier League appearances for the club, but had not featured prominently this season.

"I think Maitland-Niles had an outstanding performance tonight".

Asked by Sky Sports after Arsenal drew 0-0 at Chelsea if Coquelin was about to leave Arsenal, Wenger replied: "Yes".
