Vivo Showcases Its First In-Display Fingerprint Scanner-Toting Smartphone

At the time when Face recognition technology is replacing the fingerprint sensor, Vivo wants to revolutionize the fingerprint sensor again.

Based on Vivo's press statement, the fingerprint scanner is placed between the OLED and glass panel covering the display.

Vivo has introduced the first smartphone in the mobile scene to boast the long-awaited and sought after under-display fingerprint sensor.

Although the U.S. company claimed that its facial recognition technology was 20 times more hard to hack than its fingerprint-based technology, some reported cases showed that the Apple's Face ID function could be fooled by people of different genders and races.

The original iPhone with the touch display was released way back in 2007 and exactly after a decade, the smartphone industry has definitely moved a notch ahead with their new technology which looks like magic yet again. According to AndroidCentral, you'll need to apply a bit of pressure on the display so that your fingerprint is flattened out properly to be read by the optical sensor.

Trying to fit a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone while also expanding the length of displays has bedeviled phone makers. "We are very excited to make it available to consumers soon". As per some reports, the new technology is said to be twice as fast as 3D facial recognition, which has largely failed to impress the world. Past year they had a showcase using Qualcomm's Sense ID technology and now they want to convince the world that they are one step closer in introducing one on a phone that you can actually buy. If you may remember, the Vivo Xplay 7 was leaked with under display fingerprint sensor.

"With our efforts in extensive consumer research and long-term R&D investment, Vivo is well positioned to pioneer the development of fingerprint scanning technology".

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo will unveil its latest feature - in-display fingerprint scanner - at the ongoing CES 2018, a Consumer Technology Association (CTA) event, which encourages innovation in consumer technologies.

Vivo hasn't announced the exact timeline for availability of this smartphone in the market, but, the company has said that details pertaining to the availability of this smartphone will be announced in early 2018.
