Alden Ehrenreich says young Han Solo will be 'idealist'

On the heels of the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has revealed a little more about the film's story and characters.

New details have emerged about Harrison Ford's behind-the-scenes involvement with Solo: A Star Wars Story. At its core, the Han Solo spinoff looks like an origin story for Han and his relationships with characters like Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (portrayed by Donald Glover in Solo). The director says that Ford focused on the Han Solo character being an orphan, struggling for human connection while simultaneously pushing it away. We only know of Bettany's involvement in the film thanks to one of Howard's zillions of teaser pictures from the set during Solo's extensive reshoots, and it's rumoured that the role was the one originally played by Michael K. Williams before scheduling issues prevented his return.

If you were already anxious about this flick, chances are the teaser trailer did nothing to ease your space-based fears. "I was kicked out of the fly academy for having a mind of my own". Meanwhile, Harrelson is "putting together a crew", and wants Han and Chewie to join.

Harrelson himself has hinted that the character's somewhat surrogate parentage of Han Solo, and with being a "free agent", it sounds like that grey area of morality will be a major factor in the budding smuggler's development.

"This is the only franchise where you go on Twitter and they say, 'If such and such happens, I am so out!" We don't have any further information yet regarding the character, however.

We get a brief glimpse of a CGI creature (visually similar to Lupita Nyong'o's in The Force Awakens) in the pilot's seat.

It's been a bumpy ride for this stand-alone prequel film.

Solo was written by veteran Star Wars writer, Lawrence Kasdan with his son Jon. His "American Graffiti" - starring young Ron Howard and Harrison Ford - pays tribute to his love of speed and his understanding of young, testosterone-fueled adventure. You can see for yourself when the film opens this summer.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
