All things Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras and Lent

All things Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras and Lent

That's why some people celebrating Mardi Gras are also preparing for Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day on February 14. To get on these floats you have to be a member, which involves a whole other process, depending on which krewe you choose. Gold for power, purple for justice and green for faith. Traditional Mardi Gras drinks feature dynamic colors and lots of alcohol.

The idea is to let loose on Shrove Tuesday before abstaining from vices during Lent, and this hedonism and revelry is celebrated across the world.

Some students, like Steinhardt senior Marco Chan, are trying to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive even if they are not in New Orleans.

Beads are the entire objective of Mardi Gras.

The city that never sleeps doesn't sleep on this holiday either. "It's the big party before the Lenten season, the ultimate blowout before you give something up for [40] days". "That's what makes it such a great event".
