Barbra Streisand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Platt to star in Netflix's 'The Politician'

Netflix picked up the series after a competitive bidding war, with two seasons already ordered.

Dear Evan Hansen Tony Award victor Ben Platt will star in the upcoming Netflix series The Politician.

Paltrow won on an Emmy for her role as Holly Holliday on Glee and is engaged to co-creator Falchuk.

Netflix is apparently brimming with confidence over the new show, giving it a two-season, straight-to-series order.

The Politician revolves around Platt's Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbara resident.

It's not clear who Streisand and Paltrow will play if they join. If the deal goes through, she'll also serve as a producer and likely direct some of the episodes.

There will be several musical numbers in the show, which will showcase Platt's talents as well as Streisand's, and if that seems an odd fit for the series keep in mind the show hails from the same trio that created Glee.

Deadline also reports that Streisand might direct a few episodes of the series.

Of course, this won't be Paltrow's first time joining the Murphy circus.

The Politician will arrive on Netflix as a production of Fox 21 TV Studios (from Murphy's overall deal with 21 Century Fox), with repertory Murphy collaborator Dana Walden overseeing the project on behalf of the studio. The Politician is the duo's fourth series together as co-creators, including 911, American Horror Story and the upcoming Pose. This marks Murphy and Falchuk's second show at Netflix and joins One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest prequel Ratched, starring Sarah Paulson.
