Firmino and Salah star again as Liverpool ease past Southampton

The match saw Virgil van Dijk make his first return to St Mary's and he received a hostile reception, with Saints fans jeering him whenever he touched the ball.

He said: "Southampton's win at West Brom last weekend was big for them because they had waited so long for a Premier League win - 12 games and 10 weeks to be exact - and this game is a hard one to call".

Watch as Jurgen Klopp discussed Liverpool's comfortable 2-0 win at Southampton, as his side move up to third in the Premier League table.

Southampton occasionally threatened Loris Karius in the Red's goal, and actually had chances to upset Van Dijk's new side, however they were unable to take their chances. You can be losing 3-0 but you can show spirit to try and bounce back, and try until the end'.

Liverpool opened the scoring on six minutes as Firmino tucked away a low shot following a lay-off from Salah, who was the beneficiary of the Brazilian's backheel shortly before the break as he fired home his side's second.

Van Dijk had been subjected to criticism following shock defeats to Swansea and West Brom and conceding a last gasp penalty as Spurs snatched a draw at Anfield in his previous three outings.

The Reds have now lost just one of their last 18 Premier League games, whereas Southampton equal an unwanted club record of seven successive home games without a Premier League victory.

'Our belief and confidence was very down and that was the worst part of the game, ' he said.
