Kasper Schmeichel Understands Riyad Mahrez Disappointment Over Failed Manchester City Move

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised his side for eventually breaking down a hard Leicester City who they routed 5-1 in Saturday's Premier League clash at the Etihad.

Mahrez returned to training Friday after taking time away from the game following a stalled transfer to Manchester City.

And Guardiola admits the win was "one of the best" performances his players have produced since he took over at the Etihad Stadium but urged them not to let their intensity drop.

However, Aguero took centre stage with a finishing masterclass after the break to take his tally in City's last seven home games to 14 goals. The pace of Vardy was being utilised less in the second half, perhaps due to a change in the nature of City's defending, but even on the counter they didn't look quite as threatening as they had done.

The England man tapped home his 15th league goal of the season, firmly putting the memories of last week's horror miss at Burnley behind him. I think what he's saying, if it infiltrates down that general message of how football and how successful football can be played that will be a great thing for English football.

Claude Puel's proposed tactical masterstroke did not pay off though, as his side dozed off again at the start of the second half to give City the lead once more.

Other bad challenges which have sparked controversy include lunges on Kevin De Bruyne by Crystal Palace's Jason Puncheon and Tottenham's Dele Alli and James McClean of West Brom.

"Kevin is an unbelievable player so it's good that he's playing with us", Aguero told Sky Sports.

"We have to wait for Vincent [Kompany] to lift the titles otherwise we will only have good memories for ourselves".

But studio guest Shay Given felt it would be hard for Mahrez to regain his focus on the back of a hard few days for both the player and his club.

"Now it is about time to move on together and of course we are stronger with him. We have more important games".
