Man City boss Guaridiola: 4-goal Aguero deserves all credit

Man City boss Guaridiola: 4-goal Aguero deserves all credit

Sergio Aguero scored an incredible four goals, Raheem Sterling put his terrible miss against Burnley last week behind him to score and Pep Guardiola's team went 16 points clear with 11 games to play. This time Sterling's reaction was to look to drive City forward.

The result emphatically ensured City returned to winning ways after the minor blip of last weekend's draw with Burnley.

"He's a phenomenal striker - he scores all different types of goals - tap-ins, cheeky chips and screamers - and we've seen that today".

Although should United drop points and City clinch it the week before, away at Everton, there is the salivating prospect for City of United's players giving them a guard of honour on to the pitch before the derby.

The half ended with City in the ascendancy with Aguero, Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan all having shots on goal.

He added: "I can not deny, the distance to the next team [is a lot], 16 [points] now, maybe United win so it's 13, but there's still a lot to play".

"I hope he will play".

Further explaining the situation, Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday: "It's quite simple - we had a lot of injuries". We have to wait for Vincent [Kompany] to lift the titles. You have to be in the right positions, in first we weren't ideal.

Riyad Mahrez finally resumed training with the Foxes after his standoff with Leicester's management against a decision to block his dream move to Manchester city.

Claude Puel insisted neither he nor any of the Leicester squad have a problem with Riyad Mahrez after the playmaker came off the bench during the 5-1 defeat by Manchester City.

"I wish as soon as possible [Mahrez] can come back and play because he is an extraordinary player".

"The transfer window is finished and he put (things) right (with what) he said".

Although one of the best defensive outlets in the league, United are still short in the midfield and at the back.

"He made perhaps a mistake".

That said, in order to beat the best teams, you need to play your best players. It is important to keep a good feeling together through these difficulties. And then the second goal was hard too, it was difficult to find a new feeling after that.

"We are professionals without feelings like that". Of course it was tough for us against this team.

City have only 11 more matches to navigate en route to what would be their first championship since 2014 and also remain firmly in the hunt in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. "But their second goal changed the game".
