Pak Taliban commander killed in U.S. drone strike

The strike took place in the mountainous Barmal district of Paktia province, where fighters from both the Haqqani network and Pakistan's Tehrik-e-Taliban militant group are believed to operate.

"All property and interests in property of these persons subject to the U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and USA persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them", the Treasury Department said.

"Treasury continues to aggressively pursue and expose radicals who support terrorist organisations and run illicit financial networks across South Asia".

This has been done as part of America's efforts to disrupt South Asian terrorist support networks, the Treasury said.

Afghan and US officials have long alleged insurgents use sanctuaries in Pakistan for planning deadly attacks on the other side of the border, charges Islamabad denies.

Those targeted Wednesday include Rahman Zeb Faqir Muhammad, said to have collected funds for Lashkar in the Gulf and been a long-standing contact for Lashkar members involved in Afghan operations.

According to United States officials, Aminullah had turned Ganj madrasa in Peshawar into a training and hiring base for the LeT, Taliban and Al Qaeda.

"We are targeting operatives who have provided logistical support, improvised explosive devices, and other technological assistance to Al Qaeda, LeT, the Taliban and other Afghanistan-based terrorist groups", said Sigal Mandelker, Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.

Earlier, the Afghan Interior Minister and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief visited Islamabad and met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi along with other top civil and military officials for seeking Pakistan's cooperation in the wake of the deadly attacks in Afghanistan. He acted as Aminullah's assistant responsible for handling his accommodations in Pakistan and relaying his messages.
