Pence didn't snub North Koreans deliberately, officials say

The delegation will return to North Korea on Sunday.

During a practice ahead of their first match in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the unified Korean team wore blue and white jerseys - leaving onlookers to wonder which players were from the north. Later Saturday night, they all joined the chief of the International Olympic Committee to watch the debut of the inter-Korean team in the women's ice hockey tournament.

Fielding the joint hockey team was one of the key agreements reached after several rounds of talks on how to cooperate during the Olympics, which run through February 25.

The flag-bearer is chosen by a vote of the eight USA winter sports federations but the result was tied at 4-4 between Hamlin and Davis and a coin was used to break the tie, in keeping with United States Olympic Committee (USOC) rules. As hockey goes, well, it was grand political theater. "Politicians must let the Korean people meet and get together continuously", said Park Sung-uk, a 48-year-old office worker who attended the game with his family.

"And so when you put it that way they're not really participating in the Olympics", said Warmbier, who is the personal guest of Vice President Mike Pence at the Games. But the Japanese side stopped short of clarifying whether they did so. He has referred to the games as the "Olympic Games of peace". So, too, did the problems of integrating the required minimum of three North Koreans on the squad in just a few days time.

Pence, who did not have any public schedule in Seoul on Saturday, made his feelings about Moon's outreach to North Korea very clear Friday. But it hit the crossbar and pretty soon the rout was on. The Swiss won 8-0.

Analysts say the North's decision to send her to the Olympics shows eagerness to break out from diplomatic isolation by improving relations with the South, which it could use as a bridge for approaching the United States.

The lunch Saturday at Seoul's presidential mansion between Moon and Kim Yo Jong was the most significant diplomatic encounter between the rivals in years. "And we wanted to strive as one team for one objective".

On Friday night, a huge crowd gathered in the freezing Olympics Stadium as performances displayed the sweep of Korean history and culture. "Because when we came home from Korea, nobody knew where we were, or cared". "They all had the same jersey on". "VP stands and cheers for US athletes, VP hangs out with USA athletes instead of dining with Kim regime, VP does not applaud N. Korea or exchange pleasantries w/ the most oppressive regime on earth", Agen tweeted, with check marks next to each item. -South Korean war games that North Korea claims are preparation for invasion.

But everyone was politically correct afterward. They have to end the day of provocation and menacing.

"There is no daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Japan on the need to continue to isolate North Korea economically and diplomatically until they abandon their nuclear ballistic missile program", Pence said in comments carried by CNN. "It felt special for sure".

When it was over it seemed no one wanted to leave the ice.

Marching in order of the Korean alphabet, the Australians were forced to wait in the wings before snowboarding gold medal hope Scotty James led the team out. If peace isn't imminent, a summit in Pyongyang between Moon and Kim Jong Un seems better to most than the threats of recent months.

Presumably there was nothing in it about scoring on a power play.
