Pressure mounts on Trump's chief of staff in wake of aide's resignation

At issue was a story that was about to pop from the British tabloid, The Daily Mail, in which two of Porter's ex-wives detailed the emotional and physical abuse they endured by him. That effort continues even after his resignation.

The high-ranking official in question, Rob Porter, was the White House staff secretary until Wednesday, when information from his two former females came to light, accusing him of mistreating them physically and psychologically.

After it was all said and done and Porter was tossed to the curb, Kelly backtracked and said he was "shocked" by the full extent of the allegations of abuse, which he deemed unacceptable. Kelly, meanwhile, was Porter's loudest defender, including in the first hours after the graphic photos of alleged abuse emerged.

During her interview with Cooper, Willoughby, who married Porter in 2009 and divorced him in 2013, called her ex-husband a "troubled man with issues that needs help". She added that sometimes the abuser has been emotionally controlling or verbally abusive before then. Holderness says Porter kicked her, chocked her, and punched her in the face on their honeymoon.

"It's important to remember that Rob Porter has repeatedly denied these allegations, and done so publicly".

Over the last one week, many Indian skilled immigrants gathered in Washington DC from various parts of the U.S. to ask the Trump Administration and Congress to remove this major anomaly in the immigration system.

"White House chief of staff John Kelly must resign", said Van Pelt.

A deputy chief of staff, Joe Hagin, was concerned that Trump aide Rob Porter, who is accused of domestic violence, hadn't yet passed a background check more than a year into his tenure and briefed his boss, Kelly, the sources said.

Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that by early fall it was widely known among Trump's top aides - including Kelly - that Porter was facing troubles in obtaining his security clearance and that his two ex-wives claimed he had abused them. Holderness has a blackened right eye and a swollen cheekbone.

The White House was also put on the defensive about Porter's interim security clearance, fielding questions about how someone could handle some of the nation's most sensitive documents while potentially being ripe for blackmail.

I believe that Kelly would not fire Porter because he probably did a good job and it would be hard to replace someone in this chaotic White House. However, reporters preferred focusing on the latest scandal to hit the White House. By the end, Willoughby said, she was in "constant terror of not knowing what I might do to set something off".

The FBI investigation into his security clearance was never closed, according to Shah. Yet Porter had sat in on meetings of the National Security Council where top-secret matters were discussed, according to three people familiar with the situation.

That Marine colonel, Todd Shane Tomko, was the former commander of the Marines' Wounded Warrior Regiment, but according to his defense attorney and to Chief of Staff Kelly and other character witnesses at his court-martial, he had spiraled rapidly as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder.
