"He was also wanted in 2007 UP blasts, 2008 Jaipur serial blasts, 2008 Ahmedabad blasts and had escaped from Batla House encounter", said Pramod Singh Kushwaha, DCP, Special Cell Delhi Police.

The recent arrest of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Abdul Subhan Qureshi is proving to be valuable to the Delhi Police after it was able to make a second arrest today in the form of Ariz Khan aka Junaid.

Encounter specialist and Delhi police inspector, Mohan Chand Sharma was however martyred in the incident.

After escaping from the Batla House encounter, he roamed around seeking shelter in Uttar Pradesh, Rajashtan and Maharashtra and most of his time was spent in buses and trains, the special cell officer said. His associate, Tauqueer, was arrested earlier by the Delhi Police in January this year. "She had no clue of his background and never even visited Azamgarh, his home town in Uttar Pradesh", said a police officer.

"He was involved in several terror attacks including the 2008 Delhi serial blasts".

Another member of the Indian Mujahideen, Shahzad Ahmed, was caught in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison for his actions at the Batla House encounter.

The Delhi Police arrested him on Wednesday, a day after he was nabbed on the India-Nepal border near Banbasa in Uttarakhand. They also sent an e-mail to news channels five minutes before the blasts to claim responsibility for them, he said. In three years, from 2014 till 2017, he met many IM sympathisers and in 2017, he started coming to India, police said. During the past few months, inputs were received through different sources that absconded terrorists of IM/SIMI have set up their base in Nepal and are frequently visiting India to indoctrinate unemployed youth among their community to fill the void left after the arrest of top leaders of Indian Mujahideen/SIMI.
