Besiktas vs. Bayern Munich

A Thiago Alcantara strike and Sandro Wagner's first Champions League goal capped Bayern Munich's 3-1 win at Besiktas on Wednesday (March 14) as the German giants cruised into the quarter-finals for the seventh year in a row.

English referee Michael Oliver had to "paws" the game to shoo the animal away from the pitch, with Bayern quickly making fun of the moment on social media.

And as Heynckes led Bayern to the Champions League title in 2013 before ending his third period in charge, he has now won 11 successive matches in the competition. He again underwent surgery in September after another setback in training.

Besiktas are now second in the Turkish Super Lig, a position that would see them enter next season's Champions League at the second qualifying round.

Bayern Munich have eliminated Besiktas in UEFA Champions League's Round of 16 tie on an 8-1 aggregate, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

"Despite our commanding position in the Bundesliga, we are working with great intensity because we can still ideal our defending, pressing, passing and attacking. Despite the 5-0 win in the first leg, we must start with intensity and my players are aware of this".

Muller swung over a cross from the right and Thiago stole in at the far post ahead of Gonul to volley home first time with his weaker left foot.

Bayern cruised to a 5-0 win at home in the first leg on February 20 behind braces from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

"It is extremely important to play in a good atmosphere".

They will be hampered, however, by absentees in defence, with Domagoj Vida suspended while Pepe and Dusko Tosic are injured. Offensively, the Turkish club will lean on Ryan Babel and Talisca, who have combined to score 27 goals in all competitions this season.
